NTPC ranked no. 1 IPP in Asia and no.2 Globally in Platts Top 250 Global Company Rankings Award.

NTPC Ltd. has been named a Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company for the year 2009. NTPC Ltd. was awarded the No.1 Independent Power Producer (IPP) in Asia and No. 10 in overall performance among the energy companies in Asia, by Platts, a division of the reputed Mc Graw-Hill companies. NTPC has also been ranked as the No.2 Independent Power Producer globally and No. 73 on overall global performance among energy companies.
This award was received by Shri A N Mishra, Additional General Manager and STA to CMD in Platts Top 250 Global Company Rankings Award ceremony held at Singapore on 16th November 2009.
These rankings are based on four key metrics- asset worth, revenues, profits and return on investment. In 2008-09, NTPC generated 206.9 billion units of electricity i.e. 28.6% of the total power generated in the country. It had a revenue of Rs 45,272 crore (9.3 billion USD) and net profit of Rs 8,201 crore (1.7 billion USD). As at 31st march 2009, the asset base of NTPC was Rs 1,05,224 crore (21.6 billion USD). It is ranked 317th in the Forbes Global 2000 list of World's largest companies published in 2009.
NTPC’s current installed capacity of 30,644 MW is nearly 20 percent of the total installed capacity in the country. Nearly 18,000 MW capacity is under construction and another 30,000 MW is on the drawing board.
