NTPC signs GSAs with GAIL, IOCL, BPCL

NTPC Limited signed Gas Sale Agreements (GSAs) with GAIL, IOCL and BPCL for supply of around 1.2 MTPA RLNG for a period of 20 years in New Delhi for its Rajiv Gandhi Combined Cycle Combined Cycle Power Project. The project is located in Kayamkulam, District Alappuzha of Kerala based on Re-gassified LNG (RLNG).

The GSAs were signed in the august presence of Hon’ble Minster of Power, Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister , Shri T.K.A. Nair, Shri Harishankar Brahma, Secretary (Power), Shri R.S. Sharma CMD, NTPC ;Shri Apurva Chandra, Joint Secretary, MoP&NG; and Shri I.C.P.Keshari, Joint Secretary, MoP. Senior Officials from beneficiary States, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka were also present. Shri R.D. Goyal, Director (Projects), GAIL, Shri A. Sengupta, Director , (Finance),PLL, Shri Chandan Roy, Director (O), Shri A.K. Singhal, Director (Finance), Shri R.C. Shrivastav, Director(HR) and Shri I.J. Kapoor, Director (Comml.) NTPC were present on the occasion.

The GSA’s were signed by Shri T.K. Chatterjee, Executive Director (Fuel Mgmt ) , NTPC; Shri J. Wasan, Executive Director(Mkting), GAIL; Shri A.K. Bansal, Executive Director (Gas), BPCL and Shri V. Damodaran General Manager(Gas) IOCL for their respective organizations.

Stage-I (360 MW) of the project is currently under operation with Naphtha as fuel. Stage-II expansion originally envisaged for a total nominal capacity of 1950 MW. The tied up RLNG quantity can support the existing stage I and one module of Stage II. Efforts are being made for tie-up of the additional quantities required for Stage II.

RLNG will be transported by GAIL through ~110 km dedicated sub-sea pipeline to be laid by GAIL. Petronet LNG Limited (PLL) shall set up LNG terminal at Kochi by 2012. Separate Gas Transportation Agreement (GTA) will be signed between NTPC and GAIL, for transportation of the RLNG.

NTPC presently operates nearly 5000 MW capacity through gas based stations. The company has total installed capacity of 30644 MW through 26 power stations including joint ventures. The company has capacity addition target of becoming 50 GW by 2012 and 75 GW by 2017. The company is currently working for an additional capacity of about 18000 MW.
