Sushilkumar Shinde calls upon young engineers to turn challenges into opportunity in the power sector

Shri Sushilkumar Shinde, Union Minister of Power today called upon the young engineers joining NTPC to turn the challenges in the sector into opportunity and devote themselves to the cause of nation building. Addressing the young engineers of NTPC at the inaugural of Induction Programme of Executive Trainee-2011 today in New Delhi, he said that joining the premiere power company of the country is an opportunity to serve the nation. He congratulated all the executive trainees and said that the power sector is the most vibrant and pivotal sector of the economy.
The batch consists of 300 trainees from the disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical, Control & Instrumentation, Civil engineering and Mining selected through campus recruitment from premier institutes of the country. The batch has 50 lady engineers and is diverse in all respects representing a Mini India with trainees from nearly 22 states of the country.
In his address Shri K.C.Venugopal , Union Minister of State for Power also urged the young engineers to explore avenues and targets in the sector and focus on industrial research.
Shri Arup Roy Choudhury, Chairman and Managing Director, NTPC welcomed the young engineers to the Power Sector and NTPC, he presented an overview of the sector on the occasion. Shri Sushilkumar Shinde and Shri K.C.Venugopal , presented Gold and Silver Medals to the meritorious trainees of the 2009 batch.
NTPC is India’s largest power generation company with an installed capacity of 34,854 MW. The company has presently over 14000 MW capacity under construction. NTPC has 15 coal based, 7 gas based and 6 Joint Venture power stations and plans to be 128 GW Company by the year 2032.
NTPC has also been playing a major role in meeting the power needs of the country and contributing to its economic and social development.
