- NDTV Leadership Award 2013 for NTPC

NTPC awarded as Business Leader in the Power Sector at the NDTV Business Leadership Awards held yesterday in New Delhi. The award was presented by Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission of India in the presence of Dr Prannoy Roy to Shri Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC. India’s top business leaders were awarded on the occasion.

Standing tall among the galaxy of 514 Indian Public and Private sector companies, the Maharatna PSU, NTPC Ltd. bagged 3rd rank in India’s Best Companies to Work for the year 2012 by The Great Place to Work and The Economic Times, in a glittering award ceremony in Mumbai on 13th July, 2012.
With this, NTPC reaffirms as one of the very Best Employers in India, second only to Google and Intel. As an icing on the cake, NTPC has also been ranked first amongst PSUs, 1st amongst large organizations (more than 10,000 employees) and 1st amongst manufacturing and production industries.Shri S.P. Singh, Director (HR) and Shri S. Roy, Executive Director (HR), NTPC Ltd. received the award.
When asked what is the biggest HR challenge at NTPC presently Shri S.P. Singh Director (HR) said in view of the diversified growth of the company, we continuously need to revisit policies for the benefit of the employees.
Great Place to Work Institute is a pioneer in studying and recognizing best work places around the world for over 27 years. Around 600 organizations registered for the study this year in India, of these 514 were long-listed on meeting the eligibility criteria. Over 80, 000 employees participated in the survey and the stratified random sample was selected not by the participating organization but by Great Place to Work Institute.
NTPC has continuously been part of the Best Workplaces List for the last eight years and has been consistently amongst topperformers. NTPC has over 25000 employees spread over 29 locations across the country. Company is the leader in power generation with presence in Thermal, Hydro, power trading, coal mining and power consultancy services.

- NTPC awarded for Excellence in HR

NTPC Limited received the recognition ‘Significant Achievement in HR Excellence’ at prestigious CII National HR Excellence Award-2011. The certificate of commendation was received by Shri Saptarshi Roy, Executive Director (HR), NTPC from Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Minister of State for Planning, Science and Technology and Earth Sciences at 2nd National HR Conclave 2011 held in Delhi. Shri S. Jai Shankar, GM (HR), NTPC was also present on the occasion. Thirty nine companies participated in the process.
- NTPC ranked 19th by the GPTW for 2011 amongst 25 top Best Companies in India
In the ranking by the Great Place to Work (GPTW) Institute, India in collaboration with The Economic Times for the Best Companies to Work for – 2011 NTPC was amongst Top 25 companies in India with 19th ranking. In the Industry-wise Best Companies-2011, it is ranked 2nd in the large organizations (More than 10,000 employees). NTPC ranked 3rd in the Manufacturing & Production and is the only company in the public sector.
- NTPC ranked 6th amongst 25 top Best Employers in Country
NTPC Limited the largest power company in the country has been ranked 6th in Aon Hewitt Best Employers in India 2011 Study of Best Employers in the country. Shri S.P. Singh, Director (HR) and Shri S. Roy, Executive Director (HR), NTPC Ltd. received the award from Shri Bhaskar Chatterjee, Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises in the award ceremony held on April 29.

NTPC is the only PSU amongst the top 25 companies in the Aon Hewitt Best Employers Study.. Over 200 companies from various industries such as banking and finance services, manufacturing, IT and ITEs, telecom, hospitality and pharmaceuticals participated in the study.
During the study by Hewitt, Shri Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD NTPC had said that owing to our history, high performance culture and Maharatna status, organizational pride is very high amongst us. This helps us in remaining a strong and a committed workforce. NTPC is a leader not just in power generation, but also in People Practices. In the recently published study "The Best Companies to Work for – 2011" conducted by Business Today, Indicus and People Strong Survey, NTPC was amongst Top 25 companies in India with 2nd position in Core Sector. In another survey conducted by Great Place to Work (GPTW) Institute Inc., India and The Economic Times in 2010, NTPC was awarded 7th place amongst the Top 50 preferred employers in India. NTPC also ranked 1st amongst large organizations, 1st amongst PSEs, and 1st amongst manufacturing and production sector by the study.
- Exemplary Leadership Award to Shri Arup Roy Choudhury for People Excellence
Shri Bhaskar Chatterjee, Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises presented the Exemplary Leadership Award for People Excellence to Shri Arup Roy Choudhury, Chairman and Managing Director, NTPC Ltd. at the Global HR Excellence Awards under the aegis of world HRD Congress held at Mumbai on 11th February 2011. Shri Arun Arora and Shri Harish Mehta presented the citation to Shri Roy Choudhury on the occasion for his outstanding contribution to the fraternity and sector.

- NTPC wins Star TV Talent Leadership and HR Award
NTPC received the HR Excellence Award for PSU Sector for Innovative HR Practices at the World HRD Congress at the Star TV Talent Leadership and HR Awards. Shri Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC Ltd received the award from Smt. Indira Parikh and Shri Sandip Ghosh, eminent members of the HR fraternity at the award function held in Mumbai.
The award was given to NTPC for innovative HR practices in the Company. On receiving the award Shri Choudhury said, ‘I don’t think humans are resources like machine or material in any organization. Human beings are dynamic and they are to be managed individually, that’s what leadership is all about.’
The other companies to receive these awards include ONGC, HPCL, Powergrid, Reliance Infrastructure and Nokia to name a few.

- Two Awards for NTPC at Asia Best Employer Brand Awards
NTPC bagged two awards at the Asia Best Employer Brand Ceremony held at Singapore recently for Best HR Strategy in line with Business and Award for Talent Management.
The awards were presented by Shri Bhaskar Chatterjee, IAS , Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises & Chairman World HRD Congress to Shri N.N. Mishra, Executive Director (HR-ER) and Shri A. K. Bhatnagar, General Manager (HR & CC). The award function was organized under the aegis of Employer Branding Institute , Stars of Industry Group and World HRD Congress.
NTPC employs about 25000 people and has a strong work ethics. NTPC’s performance has been recognized by various International/ National agencies. Company has figured amongst India’s top Great places to Work for last six consecutive years.

National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP)
Award would be given on 2nd December, 2009 consisting of a trophy and a citation in New Delhi.
NTPC awarded for NCPEDP – Shell Helen Keller Awards 2009 in the Category'C':Companies/organiza-tions /institutions who share NCPEDP's vision and through their policies and practices demonstrate their belief in equal rights and gainful employment for persons with disabilities. Other organizations awarded in the category are IBM India Pvt. Ltd, Steel Authority of India Ltd. 7(SAIL) and WIPRO Ltd.
- Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar (VRP) – 2007
Instituted by Ministry of Labour.
Awards were presented by Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Union Minister for Labour and Employment at Vigyan Bhjawan in New Delhi on September, 17, 2009.
22 NTPC employees were awarded Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar for the year 2007. 21 employees of Ramagundam and one employee from Jhanor Gandhar were awarded Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar.
In many undertakings “Suggestion Schemes” are in operation and awards are given for suggestions leading to any outstanding achievement or good performance on the part of workers in increasing productivity. VRP provides public recognition of such outstanding achievement on the part of the workers at the national level.
The VRP are awarded in recognition of outstanding suggestions given by workers for improvement in quality and working conditions.

NTPC has been ranked Second in the Core Sector with Index Score of 98 out of 100 and ranked 21st in the 25 toppers list based on a survey of 8,742 respondents in 1000 organizations across 800 cities.
ONGC ranked first in the Core Sector with 100 Index Score and Infosys Technologies ranked first in the overall ratings.
- SCOPE Meritorious Award for Best Practices in Human Resource Management
Instituted by Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE).
Award is proposed to be presented by H.E. President of India during the inaugural ceremony of the Public Sector Day on 10th April, 2010 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
NTPC has been awarded the Gold Trophy for SCOPE Meritorious Award for Best Practices in Human Resource Management for the year 2008-09.
The Panel of Judges under the chairmanship of Justice P.N. Bhgwati unanimously decided the "SCOPE Meritorious Awards in Specialised Fields".
