Transformation into an Integrated Energy Utility

NTPC became a diversified energy utility, balancing thermal and renewable sources like solar, wind, and hydro, while focusing on sustainability, carbon reduction, and innovation to lead India’s green energy transition.

2016

NTPC-Dadri bagged Top Plant 2016 Award, by Power Magazine of USA in the Coal-fired Generation category. Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated NTPC-Koldam to the nation on 18 October.

2017

Received the SCOPE Award for RTI Act, 2005 Compliance at SCOPE Meritorious Awards, in New Delhi from Hon. President Shri Pranab Mukherjee. Implemented Coal Rationalization for low-cost power. NTPC’s 2nd Masala Bond got listed on London Stock Exchange on 8 May.

2018

Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated NTPC-Dulanga to the nation on 22 September. Hon. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the Foundation Stone of NTPC-Patratu on 25 May.

2019

On 4 January in New Delhi, NTPC was awarded ‘Best Performing Utility of the Country in Thermal Power Sector’ by Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP). Shri RK Singh, Hon. Union Minister of State I/C for Power and New & Renewable Energy, presented the award to Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC. The 2,000th coal rake from NTPC-Pakri Barwadih flagged off on 12 January. Shri AK Bhalla, Secretary, Power, inaugurated the Techno Galaxy Exhibition at IPS-2019 in Raipur. Shri Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC, was also present. The exhibition showcased technologies and products by 42 Indian and international manufacturers. Achieved 6.81 MMT of coal production from Pakri-Barwadih. Production had crossed the mine plan target. The mine started coal production from 1 April 2019.

2020

Acquisition of GoI stake in THDC & NEEPCO.

2021

First Single-day 1 BU generation achieved on 18.01.2021.

2022

Shri Narendra Modi, Honourable Prime Minister of India, dedicated and laid the foundation stone of 5 Green Energy Projects of NTPC in Ramagundam Floating Solar Project (100MW) in Telangana, Kayamkulam Floating Solar Project (92MW) in Kerala, Nokh Solar Project (735MW) in Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Green Hydrogen Mobility Project in Leh, Ladakh and Green Hydrogen-Natural Gas Blending Project in Kawas, Gujarat.

2023

Installed RE capacity crossed 3GW.
