De-SO2, De-NOx

Desulfurization (DeSO2) systems are used for removing SO2 (Sulphur Dioxide), acid gases, heavy metals, particulates & other air pollutants from plant emissions.

Rationale

All Thermal Power Plants are required to comply with the emission norms as notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) and directions given by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) from time to time. In December 2015, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC)issued revised emission norms for particulate matter (PM), sulphur dioxide (SO2), and oxides of nitrogen for TPPs.

Brief About the Works being carried out

Considering NTPC’s commitments toward sustainable practices to produce power with minimum emissions, NTPC has taken various measures to control undesirable emissions into the environment. For SO2 emission reduction, FGD technology is currently at various stages of implementation for approx. 65 GW capacity. On the same line, NOx control through combustion modification/ optimization and Installation of ESP system for SPM control has already been implemented or being implemented in almost all units of NTPC.
