CSP Based Power Generation Plant
Concentrated solar power (CSP) uses solar irradiation (DNI) to drive utility-scale steam turbines, and heating and cooling systems. Integration of CSP with Thermal Energy Storage System (TESS) can offer various range of benefits that can complement other Energy storage options.
Rationale
Concentrated solar power (CSP) is an advanced technology which uses solar irradiation(DNI) to drive utility-scale steam turbines, and heating & cooling systems. Globally, CSP isa proven technology and its integration with Thermal Energy Storage System (TESS)offers various range of benefits that can complement other Energy storage options.
Recognizing the benefits of CSP as brought out above, Concentrated Solar Power (CSP)with Thermal energy storage system (TESS) can be innovative solution to supply firm &dispatchable RE power including peak demand/ non-Solar hours.
Brief About the works being carried out
NTPC has invited an Expression of Interest (EOI) for setting up Concentrated Solar Power(CSP) for the following cases on Build Own Operate (B-O-O) basis.
a. Case 1 : ISTS Connected 50MW (net at ex- bus) RE power supply from Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Project with Thermal Energy Storage System (TESS) for 8 hours operation during peak hours & non-solar hours.
b. Case 2 : ISTS connected 100 MW (net at ex-bus) RE-RTC power supply for peak hours/ non-solar hours for 8 hours duration using only wind power and CSP along with dedicated thermal energy storage system for CSP of minimum capacity200MWh(electrical). The applicant shall have the option to sell the surplus power.
c. Case 3 : ISTS connected 100 MW (net at ex-bus) RE-RTC power supply for 24 hours duration using CSP along with dedicated thermal energy storage system for CSP of minimum capacity 200MWh(electrical) and other RE source like Solar PV, Wind etc. The required energy storage for RE source (solar/ wind) shall also be included. The applicant shall have the option to sell the surplus power.
