Installation of Electric Furnace Crematorium Based on Solar PV & BESS
A solar PV and BESS powered electric crematorium offers a sustainable, pollution-free, and energy-efficient alternative to traditional cremation methods.

Rationale
Cremation has been a traditional practice since ancient times and is usually performed during daylight hours, aligning well with the availability of solar energy. Conventional cremation methods consume large quantities of wood per body, leading to deforestation, air pollution, and increased carbon emissions. This contributes significantly to global warming. Hence, there is a growing need for environmentally friendly and sustainable alternatives. Solar energy, being a clean, renewable, and abundant resource, offers an ideal solution. Solar-powered crematoriums generate heat without emitting harmful pollutants, making them an effective and eco-conscious choice for addressing these environmental challenges.
Brief About the Technology/Works being carried out
The cremation process involves burning a body at very high temperatures (700-800°C) until only brittle, calcified bones remain. This takes about 90 minutes. An Electric Furnace Crematorium powered by Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) offers a clean, sustainable alternative to traditional wood-based cremation. The project will be executed in two packages: one for the electric furnace-based crematorium and another for the Solar PV & BESS system.
Electric cremation significantly reduces air pollution, deforestation, and carbon emissions compared to wood pyres. It ensures faster, more hygienic cremation with minimal environmental impact. The integration of Solar PV and BESS enables reliable, round-the-clock clean energy supply, reducing dependency on the grid and fossil fuels. This eco-friendly solution supports energy self-sufficiency and aligns with sustainable development goals.
Benefits of the Technology
Some of the benefits of using the technology are as follows:
- Environment friendly and sustainable process as it utilizes the energy of sun
- Can help prevent deforestation as the process requires no wood
- Prevents the pollution caused by direct burning of wood
